The Custodian performs basic janitorial, maintenance and repair duties for the Program facility such as unplugging sinks and toilets, filling small holes in walls / ceilings, touching up paint, checking oil and fluid levels, and replacing tap washers, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and door handles. Also cleans external areas and cleans, washes, and disinfects building areas. Assists program staff with preparing rooms for new tenants, including pest control. Performs basic security duties such as patrolling buildings and grounds.  Also interacts with and takes direction from the Operations Manager or designate as needed.

PROGRAM SUMMARY

The 3030 Shelter and Transitional Housing Team provides a range of supports, advocacy, cultural knowledge and community involvement to tenants of 3030 – low income people who also might be coping with the realities of homelessness, substance use, and physical and mental health concerns. This new purpose-built building will provide 30 units of transitional housing, 30 emergency shelter rooms and during extreme weather conditions an additional 30 shelter beds in dormitory rooms.

This is our first major building located outside of the Vancouver area; applicant familiarity with the services in the Tri-Cities area will be an asset. The Shelter Support Worker will work with the Qualified applicants will have demonstrated skills in developing a team and launching new projects. Sechelt Hightide Modular Housing: Opened in April 2019, Sechelt Modular housing provides 40 units of single room occupancy (SRO) housing to low-income individuals 19 years of age or older who live in the community, have a history of homelessness and who need additional support services to maintain housing. This supported housing program is staffed by a combination of support workers, including an Indigenous Cultural Liaison Support Worker and a Peer Services Support Worker.

Each unit contains a private bathroom with toilet, shower and sink, as well as a kitchenette. The building has 24 hour/ 7 day a week staffing, with a minimum of two staff working on site to maintain the building, deliver programs, support tenants and ensure a safe environment within the building. The program supports also include an onsite kitchen facility and a cook to prepare at least one hot meal per day. The building also has custodial, home support and facilities management staff.

Gibsons Modular Housing: the Gibsons Modular housing provides single room occupancy (SRO) housing to low-income individuals 19 years of age or older who live in the community, have a history of homelessness and who need additional support services to maintain housing. Custodians clean the common areas of our shelters and housing developments. The Triage Centre provides emergency housing and care for people living with mental health, substance use and other challenges. There are 28 shelter rooms. Clients are able to stay longer than at most shelters, which gives shelter staff time to help them access appropriate support services based on their individual needs and circumstances. Referrals are accepted from individuals themselves, hospitals, community service providers, health-care practitioners, employment assistance workers and other local shelters. Windchimes – 27 units providing long-term housing for people living with mental health concerns. RainCity Housing staff provides supports.
