RainCity Housing’s Princess Rooms Transitional Housing Program specializes in providing a safe, supported environment for individuals with a long history of being homeless. It’s a community where people are met where they’re at in order to maintain their housing, and follows a harm reduction/health promotion philosophy.
THE PURPOSE
To provide housing to people as they address issues that are impacting their lives in order to become healthier and more independent.
WHO IS INVOLVED
Princess Rooms’ residents are often folks who have repeatedly stayed at our Triage Shelter LINK and other shelters throughout Vancouver.
WHAT IT IS
Princess Rooms offers 42 single rooms, some with kitchenettes including two one-bedroom suites. It’s staffed 24-hours a day by a team who understand street culture and provide alternative solutions to everyday challenges. Princess Rooms also has a meal program.
Generating space for people to eat together has gradually changed the vibe in the building. People no longer need to be in survival mode and begin being part of a community.
