Custodian – casual relief

Casual custodians fill in for regular staff who are sick or on vacation. Can apply for regular positions posted internally as well

COMPENSATION: $17.23 – $19.05/ hour + 9.6 % in lieu of benefits

The Custodian performs janitorial, maintenance and repair duties for a Program facility. Performs basic security duties such as patrolling buildings and grounds. Must be physically fit to do manual labour including bending, lifting and climbing stairs.

Many of our program participants and tenants have mental health and substance use issues and a history of trauma; an understanding or experience of these issues is useful. The Custodian works in programs staffed by Support Workers who work with the tenants to provide various forms of assistance.

DUTIES

  • Cleans, washes, and disinfects building areas  such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds, and washrooms by methods such as dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping, wet mopping, shampooing, waxing, and buffing, using various manual and power cleaning equipment. Assists Community Health Worker/Housekeeper as needed. Cleans exterior areas.
  • Does basic repair work such as unplugging sinks and toilets, filling small holes in walls / ceilings, touching up paint, checking oil and fluid levels, and replacing tap washers, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and door handles.
  • Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials, and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Actively assess building and grounds for presence of pests and rodents; inform program staff of indicators of pests/rodents; respond to pest/rodent infestations as per established policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12
  • Certificate in First Aid
  • Building Service Worker Certificate
  • Recent, related experience of 1 year
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Class 5 Drivers License
